Project Description

FoodE tackles food loss in Europe by raising awareness amongst youth centers and young people (18-35 y/o), inspiring them to not only engage in sustainable development but also realize food loss elimination initiatives to fight climate change. FoodE is focused on enabling young (future) farmers to develop business ideas directly related to food loss. Through this, their labour market opportunities are set to increase as they receive training and knowledge on topics & issues of the highest EU priority.FoodE also seeks to provide young farmers with a framework for creating collaborative affiliations with old farmers and agro-experts with the ultimate goal to foster activities interwoven with the food loss issue.

Project Results
  • WP1 – Provide youth organisations with a comprehensive framework and advised methodologies on how to tackle the food loss issue

  • WP2 – Create an e-Manual to provide young people with a framework for collaborating with farmers to foster activities to minimize food loss
  • WP3 – Implement Innovation Days to help them acquire knowledge of the food loss problem and engage in knowledge exchange with experts
  • WP4 – Create Food Loss reduction Ambassadors trained to lead campaigns and programs to inform the public about food loss and actions that could be taken to prevent it or re-utilize damaged products
  • WP5 – Promote entrepreneurship and create a business market for unsold products
Our Role

Innovation Hive is responsible for organizing Workshops and Entrepreneurs Corners. This topic includes activities and structured discussions with successful entrepreneurs who have set up and run their own enterprises focusing on the exploitation of unharvested crops. In addition, Innovation Hive is in charge of developing a Strategic plan tailored to relevant stakeholders’ strategies and further guidance on successful engagement. Moreover, the organization will submit an intermediary and a final dissemination report, endowed with results from communication and dissemination activities during the project. Finally, Innovation Hive is the leading organization for producing an exploitation strategy along with national exploitation plans and exploitable areas along with the final exploitation and legacy report. Simultaneously, the organization will create Recommendations (including Policy recommendations) for Youth Organizations/centers as well as for R&D sector and Policy Making Institutions in the Field of Youth.

Within the FoodE Manual and the Connective Platform, youth workers/organisations and experts in agriculture, circular economy and the food industry will contribute with a proven track record in working with youth to introduce them to important subject areas (eg. SDGs). To achieve this, the e-Manual, Practice & Innovation Days and Platform resources, will be developed and uploaded on the FoodE website to ensure a lasting effect of raising awareness. Even more important is that young people/future farmers will be sensitized towards food loss and take into account climate protection and adaptation effects within their business ideas. With these young people becoming skilled agri-food entrepreneurs, they will also transfer these focal points permanently into their professional environment and can possibly expand or change other youth’s focus. As long as the FoodE website is used by young people, youth organizations and farmers, more and more people will be familiarised with the food loss problem and the ways to eliminate it, thus contributing to the creation of sustainable and environmental friendly agro-businesses and in strengthening the circular economy.
