BARRIERS
Adult migrants across Europe often face social segregation, limited interaction with local communities and a lack of safe leisure spaces, especially in rural and culturally diverse urban areas. Breaking Barriers Towards Inclusion addresses this gap by fostering inclusion through shared leisure and community-based activities. By creating positive, informal spaces for migrants and local residents to interact, the project strengthens social bonds, promotes cultural exchange and reduces stigma. With practical resources, awareness actions and local events, the project empowers participants to feel connected and confident within their communities, contributing to more cohesive, tolerant and resilient local societies aligned with European values.
Impact
The Breaking Barriers Towards Inclusion project aims to create meaningful opportunities for people from different countries to connect through shared leisure activities, fostering dialogue, trust and cultural exchange. By strengthening social ties and promoting a sense of belonging, the project helps reduce stereotypes and social distance in communities affected by segregation. The guide for professionals and the awareness-raising materials developed will remain publicly accessible, allowing organisations across Europe to adapt and replicate the model. In the long term, the project supports the creation of more inclusive and resilient communities, extending its impact well beyond its duration.
Our Role
In the Breaking Barriers Towards Inclusion project, Innovation Hive will actively contribute to the creation of the professional guide by providing its expertise and experience in working with migrants. Together with the partners, it will help develop informal resources that support their social inclusion. Innovation Hive will design the dissemination and participant-recruitment strategy, organise and implement a local event, and collect visual material for the awareness campaign. Under Activity A.4, it will also be responsible for developing the project’s Communications Plan, which will guide all partners throughout the 18-month project.
