Eco360
According to a UNESCO assessment conducted in 2021, more than half of school programmes in over 50 countries do not mention climate change. Climate change is one of the most significant issues facing our planet, and children will be the most affected. In fact, a recent OECD study found that today’s children will experience significantly more extreme weather than their grandparents: 7x more heat waves, 3x more river floods and crop failures. As a result, the UN has proposed making sustainability education mandatory in schools by 2025. The Eco360 project was conceived in response to the urgent need for sustainability education in schools as climate change, environmental degradation and natural disasters become more severe. To address this, the project will actively engage students in environmental education through immersive and innovative approaches. By fostering pro-environmental behaviour and sustainable habits from an early age, the project is in line with the New European Bauhaus initiative, which aims to create environmentally conscious citizens with sustainable lifestyles.
Impact
The Eco360 project aims to address the critical educational need for sustainability education through a creative, solutions-oriented approach. By equipping teachers and educators in lower secondary schools with innovative tools and digital resources, Eco360 aims to empower students to actively engage with sustainability issues. The project combines immersive learning experiences, project-based activities and an easy-to-use digital platform to foster critical skills such as problem-solving and decision-making, while promoting environmentally responsible attitudes among young learners. This project not only strengthens the digital competencies of teachers and students while driving digital transformation in schools, but also promotes STEM-focused education based on real-world sustainability challenges. By encouraging a proactive approach to environmental stewardship, Eco360 is preparing a new generation to creatively and effectively address tomorrow’s environmental challenges.
Our Role
The Innovation Hive will play a central role throughout the life of the project, overseeing all activities from inception to completion. The Innovation Hive Project Manager will be responsible for creating and continually refining the Quality Management and Evaluation Plan, which will include indicators and procedures to track project outcomes and measure process effectiveness. As the lead partner in A3 of WP2, Innovation Hive will lead the development of lesson plan scenarios focused on project-based learning, with a strong emphasis on addressing real-world sustainability challenges. These scenarios will be used in WP3 to create videos. As part of WP3, Innovation Hive will work closely with teachers (teaching 11 – 15 year old students), Lower Secondary Schools (Gymnasiums) and students aged 11-15 years old to produce immersive 360-degree videos highlighting sustainability education and professions linked to sustainability. Finally, our organisation will proudly host the Final Translation Project Meeting in Larissa, Greece, marking the end of this collaborative project.
