EmpowerHer
Human trafficking in Europe disproportionately impacts third-country nationals, particularly single women, who face exploitation and significant barriers to integration in frontline countries like Italy, Spain, and Greece. According to surveys, human trafficking generates approximately €29.4 billion annually, with over 10,000 victims registered in the EU in 2022. However, actual victim numbers are estimated to be five to ten times higher, with 37% being EU citizens and 63% from third countries. Victims, especially recent migrants, are at high risk of being re-trafficked within two years due to debt bondage, economic instability, and lack of effective integration.
The EmpowerHER project addresses this by providing specialized assistance, enhancing integration through civic and language training, promoting economic independence via job placement and entrepreneurship, and fostering transnational cooperation to improve anti-trafficking efforts. The project also emphasizes the sharing of best practices and knowledge among partner organizations to enhance the
effectiveness of support services across Europe.
Impact
Through its activities, “EMPOWERHER” aims to foster long-term economic independence for victims of human trafficking, reduce their vulnerability to re-trafficking, and contribute to a more coordinated and effective European response.
Our Role
Innovation Hive will participate in the most of the WPs, taking part in study visits and workshops, organizing and implementing training for third-country nationals (TCNs), documenting and analyzing their needs, and supporting them through mentoring and job placement services. Moreover, Innovation Hive is responsible for WP7 (Communication, Dissemination, and Sustainability) and the project’s monitoring and evaluation. Additionally, Innovation Hive will ensure that lessons learned and best practices from this project are systematically documented and shared to promote project sustainability.
