FoodE

FoodE tackles food loss in Europe by raising awareness amongst youth centers and young people (18-35 y/o), inspiring them to not only engage in sustainable development but also realize food loss elimination initiatives to fight climate change. FoodE is focused on enabling young (future) farmers to develop business ideas directly related to food loss. Through this, their labour market opportunities are set to increase as they receive training and knowledge on topics & issues of the highest EU priority.FoodE also seeks to provide young farmers with a framework for creating collaborative affiliations with old farmers and agro-experts with the ultimate goal to foster activities interwoven with the food loss issue.

Impact

Within the FoodE Manual and the Connective Platform, youth workers/organisations and experts in agriculture, circular economy and the food industry will contribute with a proven track record in working with youth to introduce them to important subject areas (eg. SDGs). To achieve this, the e-Manual, Practice & Innovation Days and Platform resources, will be developed and uploaded on the FoodE website to ensure a lasting effect of raising awareness. Even more important is that young people/future farmers will be sensitized towards food loss and take into account climate protection and adaptation effects within their business ideas. With these young people becoming skilled agri-food entrepreneurs, they will also transfer these focal points permanently into their professional environment and can possibly expand or change other youth’s focus. As long as the FoodE website is used by young people, youth organizations and farmers, more and more people will be familiarised with the food loss problem and the ways to eliminate it, thus contributing to the creation of sustainable and environmental friendly agro-businesses and in strengthening the circular economy.

Our Role

In the FoodE project, Innovation Hive is leading Workshops and Entrepreneurs Corners, engaging successful entrepreneurs in discussions about underutilized crops. The outcomes include recorded sessions, country-specific reports, and a manual for youth organizations. Innovation Hive also plays a key role in developing an outreach strategy, offering recommendations, and organizing webinars and workshops for policy impact. Additionally, it establishes a community of practice for stakeholder collaboration, benefiting youth organizations, the research sector, and policy institutions in youth development.
