GIGUP

GigUp is about addressing the multifaceted challenges faced by the most academically qualified generation in Europe. Despite their qualifications, young people struggle with underemployment, job insecurity, and the demand for soft skills in the ever-changing job market. The rise of the gig economy, driven by the 4th industrial revolution and technological advancements, requires the workforce to adapt and invent new ways to earn money and meet evolving societal and corporate needs. In this landscape, one in three individuals on zero-hour contracts and in the gig economy are young people.

This project focuses on preparing and testing the GIG UP program, a micro-courses package and skills assessment tools, utilizing the gig economy as a catalyst for enhancing employability, entrepreneurial, and organizational skills among young adults entering the labor market. Our aim is not only to equip young adults but also to empower educators from NGOs, youth associations, and professionals working with unemployed youth and gig workers. Together, we will integrate these new approaches and tools to meet the demands of a changing labor market.

Impact

This project envisions a profound impact on various stakeholders. Young individuals in the gig economy, aged 18-25, will gain essential employability skills and financial literacy, while also strengthening their understanding of workers’ rights. Partner organizations and their staff will be better equipped to support youth, enhance non-formal education techniques, and effectively engage with the target group. Additionally, educators and youth workers will see improvements in their ability to motivate and engage young people, fostering a more inclusive and sustainable community. These positive changes are expected to resonate at the local, national, and European levels, promoting stronger youth participation, decreased unemployment, and better cross-sectorial cooperation. GigUp holds the potential to create a positive ripple effect, significantly impacting the lives of its participants and beyond.
