Greenlead
The GreenLead Project aims to support SMEs in their green transition by introducing the Green Leader—a key professional responsible for driving sustainable practices within organizations. SMEs, which make up 99% of EU businesses, are increasingly recognizing the benefits of circular business models and resource-efficient solutions. However, enabling factors, such as training and skill development, are crucial for accelerating their transition towards sustainability.
The project focuses on enhancing the role of VET (Vocational Education and Training) institutions in equipping SMEs with the necessary skills and knowledge to implement green practices effectively. It will develop a competency framework, training curriculum, and specialized materials to help SMEs integrate sustainability into their business strategies.
Key Objectives:
Strengthen the capacity of VET trainers and organizations to support SMEs in adopting the Green Leader role.
Innovate VET education by integrating green transition topics.
Enable SME staff to follow structured upskilling pathways for sustainability leadership.
Promote proactive engagement of managers in implementing green practices.
Address SMEs’ diverse sustainability challenges across Europe.
Highlight the benefits of green transition in productivity, innovation, and competitiveness.
Establish a European-level framework for the Green Leader profession.
Foster multi-agency collaboration between social service providers and education sectors.
Strengthen EU and national policies to support SMEs’ green transition through VET programs.
Through these efforts, GreenLead will contribute to a more competitive, resilient, and sustainable SME ecosystem in Europe.
Impact
The GreenLead project aims to modernize European SMEs by introducing the Green Leader profile, equipping VET trainers and organizations with innovative resources to support the green transition. SME owners and managers will gain essential skills to lead sustainable business transformations, enhancing productivity, innovation, and market resilience. Partner organizations will expand their training portfolios, increasing the value of their services. Locally and nationally, awareness campaigns and networking events will drive knowledge-sharing and long-term sustainability. At the European level, GreenLead aligns with the EU Green Deal, providing policy recommendations and toolkits to support SMEs’ green transitions while strengthening VET programs for a smarter, more resilient Green Economy
