MEDMAS
The MEDMAS Project – Media Masters Initiative is a dynamic, EU-wide effort to boost media literacy and civic engagement across nine European countries. Targeting diverse groups—including school children, university students, educators, and journalists—the project combines education with innovation. Its core tools are a multilingual board game and a mobile app that simulate real-life news and social media scenarios, enabling users to identify fake news and misinformation while sharpening critical thinking.
Through 45 public events and a final gathering in Brussels, the project will reach over 3,000 participants, fostering debate, learning, and public-private partnerships. With a strong emphasis on engaging youth in civic dialogue, MEDMAS promotes inclusion, gender equality, and non-discrimination. Backed by 13 expert partners, the project’s practical and scalable approach ensures lasting impact, laying the groundwork for continued development in the fields of media education and democratic participation.
Project’s work packages:
WP1-How to distinguish the right and the fake workshops
WP2-Conferences on the impact of fake news on the European Democracies
WP3-Teachers’ training conferences
WP4-Media Masters Workshops – Playing the Educational Game Events
WP5-Media Masters Summit in Brussels
Impact
The Media Masters project aims for lasting impact by integrating media literacy into schools and communities across Europe. Through 42 events, key stakeholders like education ministries and corporate leaders engage with the Media Masters game, helping build partnerships to embed it in curricula and secure sustainable funding. This ensures the game continues to promote critical thinking and democratic participation beyond the project’s lifespan.
“Train-the-trainer” sessions will prepare educators to use the game effectively, with online tutorials available for wider access. The project also plans a “Media Masters Certification Programme” to certify trainers across Europe, further expanding media literacy education through continued corporate and community support.
Our Role
Innovation Hive plays a central role in the implementation of the MEDMAS project in Greece, actively contributing to several key work packages. Under WP1, we organize an interactive workshop in Greek focused on helping participants distinguish between real and fake news. As part of WP2, we host a national conference exploring the impact of fake news on European democracies, fostering dialogue and raising awareness among citizens. Through WP4, we lead engaging Media Masters game workshops for children, teenagers, and young adults, aimed at enhancing digital literacy and critical thinking skills. Our team is also deeply involved in the development of the Media Masters board game and app—providing user feedback, translating content into Greek, and testing its educational effectiveness to ensure cultural relevance and impact. Finally, under WP5, Innovation Hive will represent the Greek activities at the final conference in Brussels, sharing valuable insights and results from our local implementation.
