The YERAME project has been a critical initiative aimed at addressing one of the most pressing challenges facing the Mediterranean region: the depopulation of rural areas. Over the past months, YERAME has worked tirelessly to tackle the alarming outflow of young people from rural communities, especially in regions with high potential but limited economic development. The result has been a collaborative effort to empower rural youth by fostering entrepreneurial skills and creating sustainable solutions for long-term economic and social development.
Depopulation in the rural areas of the Mediterranean region is a multifaceted issue. As young people migrate to urban centers in search of better opportunities, rural communities have been left with an aging population, reduced access to services, and fewer economic prospects. The exodus of young talent has hindered growth and innovation in these regions, creating a cycle of stagnation. YERAME (Youth Empowerment for Rural Area Med Entrepreneurship) was launched with the vision of reversing this trend by enhancing the entrepreneurial skills of young people in rural Mediterranean regions. The aim is clear: to equip these young individuals with the tools, knowledge, and confidence to start sustainable businesses that could reinvigorate their local economies and stem the flow of migration.
As YERAME enters its final stages, the partners involved in the project will gather in Palermo, Italy next month for the Final Transnational Meeting and a much-anticipated Closure Event. These events will mark the culmination of months of collaborative work, offering an opportunity for partners to reflect on the project’s successes and challenges, and to discuss future initiatives that can build on the foundations laid by YERAME. During the transnational meeting, the partners will focus on:
- Reviewing the project outcomes and the impact on the targeted rural communities.
- Sharing best practices and insights gained from the training programs and entrepreneurial initiatives.
- Discussing the sustainability of YERAME’s results and strategies for continued collaboration beyond the project’s official timeline.
The Closure Event in Palermo will bring together key stakeholders, participants, and representatives from local communities, highlighting the project’s achievements and future potential. This event will celebrate the entrepreneurial spirit fostered by YERAME and will showcase some of the success stories that have emerged from the rural youth who have benefited from the project.
YERAME (Youth Empowerment for Rural Area Med Entrepreneurship) is a transnational project funded by European Commission aiming to foster entrepreneurial skills among young people in the Mediterranean rural areas (EU and non-EU countries). The project focuses on tackling depopulation by promoting sustainable economic development and social regeneration through entrepreneurship.
