On 7 November, Innovation Hive organised an Empowerment Workshop at ΚΔΑΠ ΠΡΟΣΒΑΣΙΣ, a Creative Centre dedicated to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for children and young people with disabilities. The workshop was implemented within the framework of the Educate for Independence (ED4IND) project, which aims to strengthen autonomy, self-confidence, and social inclusion among young people with mild intellectual impairments and other vulnerable profiles.
The two-hour workshop engaged 27 participants through structured and level-appropriate activities designed to encourage participation, self-expression, and independence. Facilitated by two representatives of Innovation Hive, with the active support of the educators and staff of ΚΔΑΠ ΠΡΟΣΒΑΣΙΣ, the session was delivered in a safe and supportive learning environment that responded to the diverse needs of the participants.
To ensure meaningful engagement, participants were divided into groups based on their level of support needs, allowing activities to be adapted to individual abilities and learning pace. This differentiated approach enabled all participants to actively take part and benefit from the workshop. The activities focused on building confidence, strengthening communication, fostering independence through guided participation, and enhancing social interaction.
The workshop concluded with two collective creative activities that brought all participants together. Through a music and rhythm session, participants collaborated using musical instruments to create a shared chorus, promoting emotional expression and group cohesion. This was followed by a collaborative Christmas card creation, which encouraged creativity, inclusiveness, and a shared sense of belonging.
Overall, the workshop was met with high levels of engagement and enthusiasm, while educators highlighted the value of empowerment activities tailored to different support needs. The Empowerment Workshop at ΚΔΑΠ ΠΡΟΣΒΑΣΙΣ represents a meaningful contribution to the implementation of the ED4IND project in Greece, fostering independence, inclusion, and social connection through inclusive and creative learning experiences.
