PRESS RELEASE 1

CODEDU Project Officially Launched to Strengthen Digital Innovation and Coding Education in European Schools

The CODEDU project, funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union, has officially launched with the objective of strengthening digital competences and supporting innovators in upper-primary and secondary schools across Europe.

The project was developed in response to the growing need for structured, accessible and pedagogically sound integration of coding and Arduino-based learning into school education. While digital transformation is a key European priority, many schools still face challenges such as limited access to practical tools, insufficient teacher training in robotics and programming, and a lack of structured methodologies for implementing coding activities in the classroom.

CODEDU brings together experienced organisations from different European countries, combining expertise in digital education, innovation, pedagogy and technology development. Through transnational cooperation, the partnership aims to create a complete educational ecosystem that supports both teachers and students in developing essential digital skills.

During the initial phase of the project, partners conducted comprehensive desk and field research involving teachers and students at national level. The research examined the current state of coding education, identified gaps in digital readiness and explored innovative teaching approaches. The findings are being consolidated into a Synthesis Report that will form the evidence-based foundation for the development of training materials and digital tools.

Based on these findings, CODEDU will develop:

  • A structured Teachers’ Training Curriculum
  • A Students’ Training Course
  • A gamified e-learning platform featuring a virtual Arduino simulator
  • Practical toolkits to support classroom implementation

The project aims not only to enhance students’ coding and algorithmic thinking skills, but also to strengthen teachers’ confidence and capacity to integrate innovative, hands-on digital methodologies into their teaching practice.

By combining research, digital innovation and participatory development, CODEDU contributes to the European Union’s priorities on digital transformation, innovation in education and the development of key competences.

Further updates about project activities, tools and upcoming events will be available on the official CODEDU website and social media channels.
