Eco360, an Erasmus+ project, was launched on 9 January 2025 in Nova Gorica, Slovenia. The project aims to empower schools to address the critical challenges of climate change and sustainability education through the innovative use of 360-degree video technology.
The partners from Germany, Serbia, Slovenia and Greece discussed the first steps of the project – desk research to gather best practices on the use of 360-degree video technology in sustainability education and field research to identify the needs of secondary school teachers.
The importance of teaching sustainability in schools was highlighted in a recent UNESCO report, which revealed a worrying gap in global education programmes. More than half of the world’s school curricula do not adequately address climate change, despite the fact that today’s children will face a future of more frequent and severe environmental challenges.
Using immersive technologies and combining sustainability education with STEAM provides a comprehensive educational solution to equip the next generation with the tools and knowledge to tackle climate change.
The main objective of Eco360 is to equip both secondary school teachers and students (11-15 years old) with the skills, knowledge and digital tools they need to make a real difference. Therefore, the Eco360 equips teachers and students with immersive tools, project-based activities and a digital platform to:
- Promote sustainability education rooted in real-world challenges.
- Foster critical skills such as problem-solving and decision-making.
- Inspire pro-environmental attitudes and behaviours.
- Develop their digital skills
- Support them to use immersive technology in their teaching
In line with the New European Bauhaus initiative, Eco360 aims to prepare a new generation to creatively tackle environmental challenges while strengthening digital competencies and driving innovation in schools.
Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to develop this exciting project!
