Nurturing Inclusive Policies: A Comprehensive Overview of the CEUTH_Handbook

In a concerted effort to foster the active political engagement of youth migrants and refugees, the Consulting EUth project introduces a key component: the CEUTH_Handbook. At its core, this handbook serves a dual purpose, functioning as an internal guide for project partners and as a practical resource for the wider public seeking to comprehend the intricate layers of immigrant integration and participation across European Member States and the European Union.

The CEUTH_Handbook begins by elucidating the project’s objectives and a methodology employed by the 13 partnering nations, including Belgium, France, Greece, Italy, Malta, Netherlands, Spain, and Sweden. The overarching goal is to establish consultative bodies at both local and EU levels, engaging youth migrants in active political life and collaboratively designing policies that specifically address the unique challenges faced by migrants and refugees.

Structured into five comprehensive chapters, the handbook unfolds as a roadmap for understanding the contemporary social fabric of European Member States and the EU. The initial chapter provides a thorough introduction to the project, outlining its objectives and the agreed-upon methodology. The second chapter offers a synthetic overview of existing analysis frameworks, encompassing immigrants’ integration processes, policies, and relevant social categories that inform the project’s target group definition and action design. The third chapter analyses the legal frameworks at the international, European, and national levels, providing a comprehensive understanding of the legislative landscape.

Moving forward, the fourth chapter documents best practices in the integration of youth with migration backgrounds. This crucial section serves as an outline of experiences and successes from past projects, contributing to the overarching aim of enhancing the capacity of youth, local authorities, and NGOs. The fifth and final chapter focuses on conclusive remarks and emphasizes the role of consultative bodies as a strategic tool for political participation and engagement. The handbook is complemented by essential annexes, including a glossary, best practices collecting templates, and a best practices questionnaire.

In essence, the CEUTH_Handbook emerges as a comprehensive resource, intertwining research, legal analysis, and best practices to empower stakeholders in the pursuit of inclusive policies. By directly documenting the voices of youth with migration backgrounds, the handbook not only facilitates internal project activities but also provides a valuable tool for understanding and addressing the multifaceted challenges surrounding migration, integration, and societal participation in contemporary Europe.
